MgF2 (Magnesium Fluoride) zendt uit over een extreem breed golflengtebereik. Ramen, lenzen en prisma's gemaakt van MgF2 kunnen worden gebruikt over het hele golflengtebereik van 0,12 μm (vacuüm-ultraviolet) tot 8,0 μm (infrarood). Hoogwaardige synthetische VUV-kwaliteit MgF2 is vrij duur.
Laagwaardig MgF2 wordt soms gebruikt in het infrarood, maar het is inferieur aan CaF2. MgF2 is taai en werkt en polijst goed, maar het is licht birefringent en moet gesneden worden met de optische as loodrecht op het vlak van het venster of de lens.
